Deity and Deity worship

Hi Hari,
I have two questions concern with deities.

1. Where from originates cult of deity worship (I mean Hindu tradition)? As I know it does not mentioned in the Vedas end early Upanisads. Does it mean that in vedic times people have no need to worship deity? So, what is happened that people became need of deity and to worship them?

2. As I read in books there was no worship to Radha-Krishna deities before Madhavendra Pury. The people were worship to Krishna alone. Does it mean that people before Madhavendra Puri do not feel senses compatible with relationships between Radha and Krishna? Yet Gita Govinda was written before Madhavendra Puri…

Could you clarify these points?

1. I am not sure. Please ask some scholar of the literatures.

2. Perhaps they were not as aware of Radha then. Someone needed to make them more aware of the possibility.
